TOBY THOMPKINS

Toby Thompkins is a creative and results-oriented consultant with extensive experience in designing, developing, and leading large-scale organizational development/diversity change processes. He is a seasoned professional with comprehensive experience in employee and organizational development, cultural diversity, EEO/Affirmative Action, experiential learning, mentoring, work/life balance, leadership development, targeted recruitment, and process improvement. He draws upon over twenty years of experience as a corporate executive and management consultant across industries in domestic and international settings and has been sought for comment by publications including the New York Times, The Harvard Business Review, The Chicago Tribune, The Miami Herald/El Nuevo Herald, Essence, Ebony, and Jet magazines.

His corporate roles have included Practice Leader for Organizational Culture and Diversity with Amoco Oil Corporation, Director of Worldwide Diversity at Baxter International, and Organizational Effectiveness Consultant with Harbridge House, a former division of PriceWaterhouseCoopers. His consulting clients include General Electric, M&T Bank, McCormick & Company, Marsh Inc., Sears, Johnson & Johnson, Bayer, The Philadelphia Electrical Company (PECO), Seagram Beverage Company, Shell Oil, Sony Music Entertainment, Tropicana, The Chicago Symphony Orchestra and numerous other organizations. Prior to his career in diversity and organizational development, Toby was a management information systems consultant with Arthur Andersen Consulting where he specialized in information systems design, development, and delivery and Total Quality Management (TQM).

Toby has been with Global OD Solutions since 2002. He holds a B.A. degree in psychology/political science and a Master in Public Administration, and has lectured at the undergraduate and graduate levels. He is also the author of two books: the Essence bestselling book, The Real Lives of Strong Black Women: Transcending Myths, Reclaiming Joy (Agate, September 2004) and The Real Lives of Strong Black Men: Releasing Pain, Reclaiming Love (Agate July 2007) as well as numerous articles about personal growth, relationships, and cultural and social healing.
